Free Food
Free Food Program
PLEASE NOTE:
The Free Food Program is temporarily suspended until UsMoms can raise
enough money to get our own building to distribute food from.

The free food box program is the core of all the programs offered by UsMoms Community Projects. It
operates on a weekly basis. Every Thursday Karen and Katie or other volunteer staff members pick up
food from multiple donors in a van that is borrowed from CityReach Care Society. This requires
multiple trips due to the large amount of food that is needed for the numbers of families that use this
service.
The food is taken to a facility owned by CityReach Care Society called “The Warehouse” located at 2650
Slocan Street at Broadway.
NOTE: A FOOD BANK IS OPEN AT THE SAME LOCATION ON
FRIDAY'S 8:30 AM AND IS AVAILABLE FOR UsMoms' REFERRED CLIENTS.

There volunteer parent's inventory, sort, cull and pack the food into a large plastic bin for each family.
Larger families receive the equivalent of 2 or 3 bins based on the number of dependents in the
household. The families come to pick up the food boxes throughout the same afternoon, between 2:30 –
4:30 pm. The parents bring their own bags and other containers to take their food home.

Some weeks there is a lot of donated food available. Other weeks the donated food must be
supplemented by purchasing food wholesale. Much of the fresh produce is organic and very fresh,
especially when it comes from local farms. Bakery fresh bread is always available. A good variety of
canned and dry goods are usually available. Dairy and meats are not as plentiful at this time, but UsMoms
is trying to line up consistent donations for these necessary items from safe sources.

the program. We must find more food before we can start more families. BUT, we always do, so be
patient. If you are desperate, we recommend you use the food bank and/or our wholesale grocery
program, the Good Food Box. On the Good Food Box program you can purchase fresh fruits and
vegetables at wholesale costs for a $3.00 delivery charge.
