HOW DOES THE ADOPTION PROGRAM WORK?

Families Adopting Families
When you adopt a family, UsMoms will send you a notification about your adopted family that will
include the membership number of your adopted family. The adopting family will be given a
corresponding number. This system will make it simple for maintaining confidentiality and privacy for
both families.

    • We will not give out any names or addresses of adopted families or adopting families. The
families will communicate via UsMoms using their membership numbers as we have always done.

    • The adopted family will be notified that a family has adopted their family. It will be up to the
adopted family to decide how much contact they would like to have with the family that adopts
them. (For example: some adopted families will want to send thank you cards to the adopting
    family via UsMoms.)

    • The adopting family will have opportunities to know details about the family they adopt that will
not risk their privacy or any other form of intrusion or embarrassment. The adopted family will
decide what information they are comfortable with the adopting family having. (For example: the
number of children in the family and their ages or birthdays)

    • We know from our experiences with other forms of direct donations, that generally the recipient
family needs to write a thank you card or letter to the donor because they feel so appreciative of
the help. UsMoms will make sure all of the correspondence gets to the adopting family.

When a family is adopted it means they are being fully cared for. The adoption fee includes the
cost of the food and the self-reliance training. As we said earlier, UsMoms does not see these
supports as successful in ending dependency on the social net if they are offered separately.

Additionally UsMoms will provide each family free access to donations of clothing, household items,
toiletries, etc. as we always have. The children will always have the opportunity to join the
"Homegrown Heroes” programs. The teens will always be included in the "Community Champions”
projects. UsMoms has always sent out birthday cards to every family member. This will continue no
matter how many families we have as we have seen it contributes greatly to the families’ feelings of
belonging to the community. These extras make the difference in the overall message to these families
that UsMoms is very determined to see their whole family succeed. This message keeps the families
inspired and motivated to reach their personal goals that achieve their permanent self-reliance.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON THIS PROGRAM IS COMING SOON.
We urgently need 484 families adopted immediately. This is the number of families that were not
covered under our funding since January. It is our goal to get these families adopted by the end of April.

As of June, the rest of our families will need to be adopted also. The funding for these 500 families will
run out by the end of June 2005. We will continue to campaign for these families and any new families
we enroll until all of these families are adopted.

If you adopt a family we ask you to commit to one year’s amount of $520.00. Payments can be made for
the month of April 2005 and the rest of a year (up to March 2006) by preauthorized credit card or debit
payments. Or you can simply mail a cheque for April and include post dated cheques for the balance of
the months (up to March 2006) that we can deposit on the date they are written for.

IF you cannot commit to adopting a family for one year, but would like to help as much as you can, then
you can make a payment for any amount under the category labelled as "A General Donation.” We
deeply appreciate any help you can give us towards ensuring that all of these families are well fed and can
have the capacity to achieve permanent self-reliance.

52 Weekly payments = $10.00 each week
12 Monthly payments = $44.00 each month
1 Annual payment = $520.00 once
A General Donation = $ Any amount

Our website is set-up to accept secure online donations and payments through PayPal. The donation can
also be mailed to us. This saves us the cost of an online transaction.
We can use the money most effectively if it comes in larger sums. It increases our buying and hiring
power.

FOR EXAMPLE:
Right now we urgently need to raise $10,000.00 to use for pre-buying by contracting to local farmers
for fresh produce from the fields and local greenhouses, plus line-up the farms that can provide winter
root vegetables. This money can purchase the equivalent of $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 retail in food
because we are buying direct from farms at below wholesale prices. These contracts must be made by
the end of April to get the best price. The farmers benefit by having the money to buy their seeds and
know up front that they will have a buyer for their product that will cover the costs of their production.
If the crops fail for any reason, we do not lose this money. Crop insurance covers our contracts.

When you make a payment for your adopted family, the portion of the payment that is allotted to
purchasing food that we cannot get donated will be put towards this fund every time we receive a
payment. If we reach our goal of having 484 families adopted in April, and if over half of the adopting
families contribute one month of support ($44.00) in their first payment, we will have the $10,000.00
we need to contract for this food without taking away from the amount of food and training the families
will get in the same month.
