Rules, regulations and Considerations
to keep in mind at all times.
It is our goal that we build a trusting and courteous relationship with each person on our
programs. To keep the program running smoothly, we have a few requests to make. We do
everything we can to maintain a healthy and friendly atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Once you receive your starting date, we expect you to show up on that date to start your program.
If you do not show up as scheduled you lose your place on the list. You will then need to call for
another start up date. Please  don’t let embarrassment or any other negative feeling keep you from
calling for a second start up date.

Once you are accepted into the program, it is your responsibility to pick your box up every week
or arrange to have someone else to pick it up. If you cannot make it, you are expected to notify us
24 hours in advance. Call 604 261-2282.

On any Thursday that you do not show up during the hours of 2:30 – 4:30, we will give your box
away to someone else before 5:00 pm. You need to get special permission in advance from a
Supervisor to pickup your box between 4:30 – 5:00 from the office. This half hour is dedicated to
ensuring any left over food is not wasted. It is packed up and given to other food programs in the
community.

We certainly understand that if you have suffered from chronic poor nutrition you may have a
hard time getting yourself to do what is best for you and your family. Poor nutrition lowers
anyone's ambition. BUT, this is a self-reliance program. If you find you are having difficulties
motivating yourself to get out to pickup your food, you are expected to ask us for help. You will
not be misjudged or viewed as a failure. Being brave enough to admit you need help is the
beginning of becoming truly self-reliant.

A lot of the parents have gone through this process. In the weariness of poverty and hunger, it can
feel like you are not being supported the way you believe you need to be when we insist on you
being responsible for getting your food.  We do understand. We have parents who will assist you
in getting yourself started. One day you will be the parent who is helping another parent to get
started.

That is the great part of joining this program. We all help each other to become self-reliant and stay
self-reliant. The key to gaining permanent self reliance is to help as much as we can without
helping each other to go deeper into a state of helplessness.
