VOLUNTEER POSITIONS – Opportunities to Learn to Excel

UsMoms has always been a volunteer driven organization. The first prestigious community award that
UsMoms received was from Volunteer Vancouver for our excellence as an organization of volunteers.
Today the tradition remains. There are only 2.5 paid positions in UsMoms. The rest of what we do is done
by volunteers. The recipient parents volunteer numerous hours every week to support the Free Food Box
Program, the Giveaways, our holiday events and any of our needs specific programs. UsMoms provides
many opportunities to learn job-ready skills, job retention practises, and confidence building strategies.

UsMoms is opening up a new set of positions specifically for the infrastructure. UsMoms is focussing on
developing office personnel, IT support and our accounting system. We know that many young people
desire the opportunity to explore their passions and career objectives. These new programs are designed to
offer positions that are meaningful in their social value, and yet, are considered the “sought after” career
experiences for the 21st Century job market.

UsMoms has designed a recognition system that will define the measurable achievements and results in a
clear format. This program is intended to promote the capacity of each volunteer to recognize their own
achievements within a structure that reduces unhealthy competition. The recognition system will fulfill
three imperative benefits.

One, the volunteers will be able to set individual personal development and improvement goals that are
intended to build the volunteers’ self-awareness, self-confidence and self-discipline. Two, the activity or
assignment will have a defined set of skills to learn and/or practise that have a potential to qualify the
volunteer for job / career positions or entry into post secondary education.  Three, the recognition system
will include bursaries ranging from $50.00 to $1,000.00 for the volunteers to use to further their
interests. These bursaries are awarded for individual initiatives that show a willingness to exceed self-
limitations and promote meaningful leadership amongst the group.

Each volunteer position will have a 3 or 6 month commitment period.
