The News Team is open to anyone interested in participating as part of a team that will build the UsMoms News Real – a section of our website that will be a newsletter with subscribers, that may also be published on paper and mailed out to paying subscribers.
The vision we have for this publication is twofold. We want to present and “edgy” insight into poverty, hunger, homelessness, labelling barriers caused by nutritional deficits, prejudices against the poor, and desperate lifestyles. The polarity of this insight will cover the work being done in the community to reduce, relieve and reverse the causes/sources of poverty and hunger. Success stories as anguished stories of hunger. The idea is to move the publics perception off the stereotype DTES, Hastings Street, bag lady, derelict and onto the families that suffer silently.
This will be great fun for any person who is interested in becoming a reporter/journalist, camera person, editor, typist, artist, layout designer or an interviewer. The team will get to attend many forums, events, markets, legislation, government offices etc Board of Trade.
- The final approval of content will be done by the executive editor and/or legal department.
- Interns from universities who are studying to be professional journalists will be invited to assist the team.
- The Food Policy Council meetings and Emergency Food Providers Coalition will be accessible to any participant.
- Ads may become revenue sources if money is needed to support this venture.
- The News Team will help promote UsMoms’ events, programs and projects.

UsMoms Infant and Child Support Team:
This team will focus on supporting the pregnant moms and the infants to toddlers that are on food programs. The goal is to ensure that the infants get the best start possible by ensuring the pregnant mom is well fed, safely housed and given the emotional support that will encourage good choices.
Services will be provided by getting donations from the community. Ideally each high school in the city will be encouraged to become involved by holding events to raise money or to do collection drives.
Collection Drives:
Baby days, Diaper days, Baby food and formula drives, Maternity clothes, Baby clothes and furniture, pre natal and infant vitamin sources.
Services:
- Build Infant Welcome Baskets for newborns to toddlers for when a mom signs up to go on the Free Food Box Program.
- Respite for Mom – 2 or 3 participants/team members will provide Time Out for highly stressed moms. Mom can go out while team babysits, cleans and straightens up home. Whenever possible, team will bring household items that are needed to raise the comfort level and improve the conditions within the household.
